The latest issue of Kansas! Magazine was full of festivals and celebrations throughout the state this year. It was very disappointing to see no mention of Marion's major events. Who deserves the blame for this? Seems like somebody "dropped the candy in the sand." It's hard to get tourists without giving them a reason to come.

The City of Marion currently allows fireworks to be discharged in city limits for nine consecutive days for 13 hours per day. That means 117 hours of terrified pets and interrupted peace. Let's limit the hours to be less disturbing — I would suggest July 2-4, 6 to 10 p.m. It would be a humane amount of time to sedate family pets and allow for adult supervision of dangerous explosives.

The polite response to "thank you" is not "uh-huh" or "no problem." The response is "you're welcome."

Eight days of fireworks allowed to discharge is excessive and inconsiderate. Some neighborhoods have residents who disregard their neighbors who are innocently assaulted by the noise, terrified by the possibility of fire, and saddened by the unremoved debris. Let's have a community display instead.

Wake up commissioners! What about the people you have on the labor force? Do they not qualify for a raise in pay? After so long working for poverty level pay, it is time to compensate these people. But then, I guess this is Marion County. How about the commissioners go out on the road and join the labor force to see how much fun it is to try and make a living.
