The Girl Scouts of Marion benefit greatly when their community friends donate aluminum cans to the deposit site on North Walnut Street.

About Randy Dallke's quote "We (Marion County) are way behind, we need to have PTO (paid time off). It's very generous of Marion County to have this policy and it needs to change." As an employee of Marion County, I'd like to say our current vacation and sick leave are one of the few benefits we receive. The commission continues to change our insurance policy each year, resulting in an increase in our deductible or our share of the premium. We are to receive a pay raise on our August check, but this is the first increase most of us have had in more than two years.

Our pay scale is so low that it requires a large majority of our employees to have a second job on the side. The county has not filled the road and bridge superintendent position because of the low starting wage. It is hard for the county to get and keep qualified employees because of the salaries. The current leave policy is a little incentive to work for the county and stay. The commission continues to look for ways to save the county money and each time it seems to involve reducing our benefits.

People in Washington who we pay to do the job of running our government and who should be taking care of our energy crisis should not be taking summer vacations. They should stay and do their job. If not, we should vote them all out.

It is against the law to kill the eagle and we are trying to save the polar bears, but it is OK to kill unborn babies. Does that bother anyone?

Thank you, volunteer firemen, for your hard work.

Voters, make an informed decision. Bigger signs don't make a better candidate.

Parents, let's show some respect at the baseball games. Games are a team effort, but that doesn't mean angry parents should be sideline umpires and coaches.
