Marion County Commission hired Dan D’Albini of Hillsboro as the county’s emergency management director Monday after a series of closed sessions. D’Albini will assume the duties April 1.

A surprise snowfall Sunday evening covered grass, shrubs, and trees with a blanket of white. Most of the snow had melted by the next evening.

Marion High School senior Adam Molleker has accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in physics and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award at a student recognition program in Salina. Adam, who plans to major in physics, is the son of Don Molleker and Robyn Brooks of Marion.

Alex Whaley of Frederick Roofing and Waterproofing of Wichita is pictured as he scrapes old slate shingles off the roof of the William F. Schaeffler House Museum in Hillsboro. The company is re-shingling the roof with historically accurate slate shingles.

Former Marion County Sheriff James S. Kline, 87, of Arlington, Texas, died March 16 after a short illness.

Building and remodeling houses is an enjoyable enterprise for Garry Dunnegan of Wichita. He has performed drafting and engineering for construction projects throughout the country for the past 20 years. That is why he bought the property at 73 Lakeshore Drive at Marion County Lake.

The house is Dunnegan’s third project at the lake. He has renovated the former Kingfisher Inn and the house at 3 Prairie Lane. Since he purchased the 73 Lakeshore Drive residence this past fall, he has doubled its size —from 900 to 1,800 feet. He plans to sell it upon completion.
