Wheat harvest yields were averaging between 40 and 50 bushels per acre Friday. Farmers had been concerned that yields would be below average because of the dry spring. Stan Utting, general manager of Agri-Producers Inc. in Tampa, estimated yields were up to 10 bushels per acre more than farmers expected.

Featured Friday and Saturday at Marion’s sesquicentennial celebration will be an antique flea market, car show, ice cream social, cake walk, free movie, and dance.

Try-outs will be held Tuesday and Wednesday for the melodrama production of “Rat Catcher’s Daughter,” the play to be performed Aug. 12 and 13 as a part of the community’s sesquicentennial celebration.

It won’t be legal to shoot fireworks in the city limits until Friday, but the Independence Day fireworks season already is in effect in areas outside the city limits in the county.
