103 mph in city = $1,400 fine

A Marion man driving 103 mph in the 800 block of N. Cedar St. without a seat belt on Sunday got hit with a high price tag for his recklessness — a $1,400 traffic ticket.
“It’s a $1,260 fine, plus he didn’t have a seat belt so $30, plus $110 court costs,” police chief Clinton Jeffrey said.
Jeffrey said the department got numerous complaints over the last few months about a red Ford Mustang peeling out and driving recklessly on city streets.
Jason Marshall, 21, Marion, was the driver of the Mustang. Jeffrey said he gave the officer who pulled him over no excuse for his excessive speed.
Jeffrey said Marshall could have been arrested for reckless driving, but city attorney Susan Robson will decide whether to charge him with reckless driving when she reviews the file.
The traffic stop hit Jeffrey close to home. In fact, right in front of his home, so Jeffrey came outside.
“We knew exactly who it was, we had not been able to catch him,” Jeffrey said.
Jeffrey said Marshall is thought to be the half brother of Ashley Loomis, who has been arrested in Marion County 14 times since October 2018 — including February, March, and April — for various charges including burglary, obstruction of law enforcement, theft, and failure to appear in court.
