The absence of city lights during Chautauqua — owing to the burning of the city plant —was a distinct loss, but gasoline lights served very well. Electric lights for the platform were kindly furnished by Harry Rogers from his light plant at the Auditorium and helped greatly.
City commissioners have decided to tear down the walls of the present powerhouse and erect a new building. Commissioners hope to have the building erected and the new plant ready for operation Nov. 1.
Relatives and a few intimate friends witnessed a beautiful wedding when Elsie Cerney, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cerney of Pilsen, was united in marriage to William Shelhon at the Catholic church at 10 a.m. Monday by Father Sklenar.
Leslie Bryan came home Tuesday from Nebraska. He has a broken ankle after being made sick while riding on a merry-go-round and jumping off while it was going. He broke both bones of his ankle but is able to go on crutches.
Mrs. Josiah Good, Mrs. Jessie Sumner and Miss Clara Sumner of the Home Economics Club will go to Elk on Tuesday of next week to conduct cooking demonstrations for the benefit of the ladies of the community.
