After months if not years of discussion, the board of directors of Marion County Hospital District No. 1 has approved solicitation of bids by chief executive Jeremy Armstrong for a master plan for a new hospital.

During the evening hours of the last day of deer season, Marion resident Torey Hett finally got a deer at the former Marion County landfill. Hett had tried all season to bag one. He shot a large buck the first day of the season but was unable to track and retrieve the animal. Finally, on the very last day at about the last possible moment, Hett got his quarry.

Tye Remy, son of Tom and Lynley Remy, and Justine Jennings, daughter of Jen Jennings and Reg and Darlene Hubbard, were crowned winter homecoming king and queen Friday at Centre High School

Jessica Lauren was the lucky bidder at the Central Park playground equipment fund-raiser Saturday for tickets to a Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson concert. She gave $685 for the pair of tickets and special passes.

Marion Elementary School sixth grader Alicia Maloney was crowned MES spelling bee champion Jan. 22. Fifth grader Kaylie Waner was runner-up. Sixth grader Dirk Young, who placed third, will join them as alternate when they attend the county bee Feb. 6 at Hillsboro.
