That tobacco will grow luxuriantly here butcher Smith’s several patches fully testify. We can see no reason why it cannot be made a profitable crop on a larger scale.
To obviate the damage to the plant from wind-whipping, Mr. Smith encircled the spots with corn, which makes an effective wind break and pays for itself.
Antonio Albert is again in trouble. Antonio doesn’t seem to get along very harmoniously with those whom, according to the Good Book, he should love as himself.
Only a few months ago he appeared in court with a cracked cranium, which he got from a neighbor’s shillelagh. And Monday, Albert was again in court, this time at the insistence of Mrs. Dumbell, another neighbor, like him of Bohemian extraction.
From the testimony as interpreted by Mr. Rudolph, it appears that Mrs. Dumbell sought some stock on the premises of Albert, and cross words ensued. Mrs. Dumbell threw her slipper at Albert, and the latter threw it back and also enforced the argument with his foot.
It was too warm for oratory, so attorneys Foster and Williams wiped perspiration from their brows and submitted the matter to his honor, Judge Gaver, without argument.
That dignitary very truly said it was unbecoming for a man to quarrel or fight with a woman and that he should be compelled to further signify his displeasure of such conduct by imposing a small fine upon the defendant. And all is quiet again in Bohemia.
