Plans have been made for Marion to be host to 341 riders of the Bike Across Kansas group that is expected to arrive June 9 at Central Park. Marion Chamber of Commerce will have a welcoming committee to greet riders and offer them a cold drink and information about the community. A spaghetti dinner will be served to them in the basement of Marion City Building.

Michael Pope, pastor of Valley United Methodist Church, addressed 300 people gathered in Marion Cemetery for Memorial Day services. Pope said the youth of today would continue to show the courage of their forebears, honored on Memorial Day.

“Marion County — In the Center of It All” is the name of a tourism tabloid now available. It was produced by Marion County Economic Development Council. Anyone wishing to pick up a copy should contact a local chamber of commerce or city office.

Marion High School graduate Charlie Helmer is pictured playing taps at Memorial Day services. Instructor Mike Connell was lead performer, with Helmer, Brian Loomis, and Michel Soyez providing echoes.

Beary Special Babies born in May at St. Luke Hospital include Brandon James Meierhoff, May 4; Leslie Olin Riggs, May 6; Mary Alice Britton, May 11; Jeremy Layne Moore, May 19; and Amanda Diane Floyd, May 28.
