Marion County Commissioner Leon Suderman was sworn in Monday. This begins Suderman’s third term as commissioner representing the 1st District.

Colleen Hajek of Marion has qualified as a Mary Kay team manager and earned free use of a Pontiac Grand Am presented to her Saturday at Irv Schroeder County Motors in Hillsboro.

LeRoy and Lila Hoffman of Marion will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 22 with a reception at Marion Christian Church.

Thies Tax and Accounting in Marion has been sold to Jim Labelle of Wichita. Jim’s Accounting and Tax Service now operates at the same location, 104 N. 5th St. Thies will open an Edward D. Jones investment office later this year that will serve all of Marion County.

Newton optometrist Don Stangle was found guilty Jan. 4 of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. The charges stem from the death June 25 of Kaye Bartel, Hillsboro, on US-56 near Hillsboro.
