Cottonwood Valley Babe Ruth “All Stars” are entered in the state Babe Ruth tournament in McPherson this week as the result of winning their regional at Cottonwood Falls last weekend.

As is the practice, a mythical “all star” team was picked from those who played at the regional. It includes the following four men from the Cottonwood team: John Phillips, catcher, and Bruce Gibbs, first base and pitcher, Cottonwood Falls; and Gary Melcher, left field, Marion.

In a move to make way for the new Marion Reservoir, the cemetery at Bruderthal church, officially called the Ebenezer cemetery, is now in the process of being moved to a new location about a mile east of Hillsboro on US-56.

Patrons of Marion Unified School District No. 408 will vote a special question ballot at the primary election Aug. 2. They will decide whether the district shall construct a new stadium and other improvements at the athletic field.

Mike Wood set what at least is a modern-day course record at Marion Country Club Tuesday evening when he carded a nine-hole 29, six strokes under par. The feat was witnessed by Mike’s father, Dr. Earl Wood.

There was only one winner in this week’s Cash Days drawing. John Just of Marion received the second place award of $15. Bob Boese, Marion, missed $200; Marie Ortery, Marion, missed $20; Jean Thompson, Cedar Point, missed $5; and Mrs. Frank Krotz, Durham, missed $40.

The Pilsen Polkateers, a group of musicians between 12 and 16 gave their first public performance Sunday evening in the old Pilsen church hall. Organized by Florian Makovec, the band includes Terry Stroda, Gary Steiner, Gene Shramek, Ronnie Vinduska, Danny Rudolph, Christy Silhan, Kenny Steiner, Terry Vinduska, Joe Meysing, Tommy Stroda, and Mark Hajek.
