An era and a county landmark will end this Friday when Cedar Rest, the former county poor farm, is sold at auction. Land, building, fixtures, and remaining contents of the imposing three-story stone structure southwest of Marion will go on the auctioneer’s block, and the county’s first effort at taking care of its indigent and more unfortunate citizens will become history.
Pilsen Catholic Youth Organization was winner of a Newton Deanery one-act play contest Nov. 22 in the Pilsen school hall. Cast members were Tommy Dvorak, Robert Holub, Linda Loney, Kathy Kroupa, Anita Rudolph, Danny Rudolph, and Richard Stika.
Kansas State University students appointed to command positions in its Air Force ROTC cadet wing include Jim Loomis of Marion, Jon Peters of Lehigh, and Harold Socolofsky of Ramona.
The Community Guild Christmas program will be Dec. 1 in the Methodist church sanctuary. It will feature some of the most talented musicians of the community. Some of the music is being especially arranged by Mrs. William Staub. Irma Wymore will be narrator. The narration is being contributed by Mrs. E.D. Longhofer.
