Don Davis, former Marion boy who since 1962 has been president of the College of the Ozarks at Clarksville, Arkansas, will be featured speaker Sept. 25 at this year’s Old Settlers Reunion.
Cement is being poured today on the widening of 3rd and 4th Sts. New curbing has been installed, light poles moved, and excess sidewalk torn out on the north side of the streets.
A business announcement of top importance to shoppers of this area is made this week. Sears, Roebuck and Co. has announced the opening of a new catalog sales merchant for this area. The store will be operated by Gerald Hill in a newly remodeled building at 106 E. Main St.
Linda Sue Strome of Burdick was crowned Marion County Fair queen in coronation ceremonies the final night of the fair in Hillsboro. She was crowned by Elaine Klassen, 1965 fair queen.
Runners-up were Patricia Edmonds of Peabody and Margie Goertzen of Henderson, Nebraska. Faith Kleinsasser, Hillsboro, won the talent competition.
School enrollment in the Marion school system is about the same, with a nine-student drop from last year,
Enrollment at Bown-Corby is 158; at Marion Elementary, 339; and at Marion High School, 209, for a total of 70
