Keith Mueller and Pauline Best will be co-directors of activities for the coming season in the Athletic Association-sponsored Summer Youth Program, according to Bud Pierce, association president.

The program is scheduled to start around June 18, with a full season of athletic activities, midget baseball, and other forms of supervised entertainment to occupy the time of the children throughout the summer months.

Marion City Commission this week hired Dale Sission, 35-year-old veteran of Wichita, as one of the two police marshals for the day and night shifts with Marshal A.L. Schambron.

Saturday is announced as the re-opening date for Van’s in their new location in the American Legion building.

The county commission has hired Earl Bartel, Newton architect, to draw up plans for remodeling the county home in preparation to re-opening it, probably by fall.

The boys and girls of the 6th grade held an exciting “School’s out” skating party at the Roll-In Rink here Tuesday night.

Twenty-nine men from the Aulne community donated time and labor Friday to help their neighbors and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Nelson, put new shingles on their house

Mr. Nelson is 82 and his wife a few years younger and the job was a little too much for them. So word passed around and early Friday this group of men started to work. Wives of the men cooked and served lunch at noon. The roofers are pictured as they finish the meal.

Just for good measure and because they had extra time left in the afternoon, the men pitched in and helped their preacher, Rev James Moody, clean out his cistern.
