Dame Fortune smiled upon Marion’s Old Settlers Day this year with more than a usual blessing. The day was ideal, and the program of events went off without a hitch, much to the enjoyment and satisfaction of a large crowd.

The French “Merci Train” is expected Sept. 29in Marion. The interior of the car has been converted to display many interesting and historical articles. It represents a reply from the people of France for Friendship relief trains sent to them from this country in 1947.

Marion Warriors are rapidly rounding into shape for the opening football game this Friday at Moundridge. With 19 lettermen, including 10 seniors, back from last year along with five juniors and four sophomores, coach Irish Ireland has a good nucleus around which to build a team.

A Model 40 Austin-Western self-propelled street sweeper was delivered last week and will be a welcome addition to the city’s equipment. According to plans, all hard-surfaced streets with gutters will be serviced by this machine regularly.

Max Merrill, Bud Hannaford, and Monty Frazier attended a Hi-Y Congress meeting Sept. 19 at Emporia. Max, as district congressman, acted as master of ceremonies.
