Another Tabor athlete arrested

A 22-year-old sophomore guard on the Tabor College basketball team was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving an unregistered vehicle on the wrong side of the road while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Leon N. Srisamutr, whose hometown is listed on Tabor sports rosters as Manchester, England, was stopped at 1:43 a.m. Saturday at 3rd and Adams Sts. in Hillsboro by Hillsboro police officer Randal Brazil, according to monitored police transmissions.
A second Tabor basketball player, identified in transmissions as freshman guard Jack Taylor of Wichita, was in the 2016 Honda that Srisamutr was driving at the time of the stop.
According to an offense report filed by Brazil, Sriamutr also is accused of transporting an open container of alcohol, and charges of underage drinking are pending against his passenger.
Deputy Joel Womochil, who volunteered to back up Brazil at the scene, later reported that the car, for which a tow truck had been called, was released instead to a third party, whose license he checked but asked dispatchers not to broadcast the name.
Although Brazil arrived with Srisamutr at Marion County Jail at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, Srisamutr was not officially booked until 10:16 a.m. — nearly eight hours later. He was released 3½ hours after that on $2,500 surety bond.
According to Tabor rosters, Srisamutr previously played for OnPoint Hoops Academy, a player development program for high school graduates in El Reno, Oklahoma.
He is the 13th Tabor College athlete arrested on suspicion of drug or alcohol charges in the past seven months.
