Centre hires new superintendent

After interviewing two candidates last week, Centre’s school board has hired Daniel Ackland as superintendent.

He also will serve as principal for Kansas Online Learning Program and classes from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. His two-year contract, beginning July 1, includes a first-year salary of $100,000.

Also included are monthly Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance payments of $612.06, 15 days of paid vacation, 12 days of universal leave, use of a school vehicle for business travel, payment of administrative and national convention dues, a onetime moving expense of $3,500, and a laptop.

Ackland was an elementary school teacher for eight years before becoming a principal the next eight years, including this year at Garnett. He has a wife and two children.
