County files petition seeking tax sale

As many as 32 properties in the county could be sold at auction for unpaid taxes.

Most of the tax bills that gave rise to a suit filed Thursday by Marion County are property taxes, but one is for unpaid mineral taxes.

Some of the unpaid property tax bills are higher than the appraised value of the real estate.

Lorreta Looney and Lorretta and Terry Looney appear on the list several times. The Looneys owe $24,223.41 in taxes.

The last county tax sale was a year ago.

Parcels and owners on the list of defendants include:

• A vacant lot on Cemetery Lane in Burns owned by Gene Pearson, owing $340.

FLORENCE

• A vacant lot on W. 5th St. in Florence owned by the late Jeff Lee, owing $99.66.
• 810 S. Main St., Florence, owned by Lorretta Looney, owing $7,598.87.
• 2299 140th St., Florence, owned by Terry and Lorretta Looney, owing $4,399.30.
• 620 Barker St., Florence, owned by Kerry and Christina Rose, owing $511.66.
• 209 W. 4th St., Florence, owned by Donna and Jon West, owing $881.06.
• 101 Doyle St., Florence, owned by Lorretta Looney, owing $4,888.70.
