County tries to fix paving problem

Road crews are experimenting with different types of paving oil in hope of finding one that will bond in ways that oil applied to Remington Rd. did not, county commissioners were told Monday.
“They’re going to try the chip-seal oil to see if that will adhere,” county administrator Tina Spencer told commissioners. “If it doesn’t adhere, then they’ll have to clean everything out and switch everything out to a different type oil.”
Commissioner Jonah Gehring responded: “If they figure out a solution on Remington, I’d like to see them go back on the mile west of Goessel. It’s about the same.”
Later, commissioner Mike Beneke questioned repairs on yet a third road.
“Some of the repairs on 290th west of Lincolnville, it’s worse than when they started,” he said. “I did say something to one of the EBH [Engineering] employees, and his comment was, ‘Well, we got a dirt contractor fixing them that doesn’t know anything about asphalt.’ That left a pretty sad taste in my mouth.”
Gehring interjected: “Before their name is mud, we need to have a representative here.”
Spencer said she would arrange that.
In other business Monday, commissioner Clarke Dirks gave his fellow commissioners a formal resolution he received from Liberty Township’s trustees expressing opposition to commercial wind farm operations in the township.
