COVID cases continue to drop

This week showed continued decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases in Marion County.

Marion County health department in the last week reported eight new cases of COVID, a 33% decrease from the 12 new cases reported last week.

On Tuesday, the county reported 1,006 total cases of coronavirus to date.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment lists 1,024 cases for the county with 74 having been hospitalized since the state began keeping records.

According to the health department, no patients were hospitalized Tuesday, but 10 remain in isolation or are still being treated.

Health department data lists 24 deaths from COVID since the pandemic began, five more than the county reported a week ago.

Death reports often are delayed for weeks or months. No further information on the newly reported deaths this week was released.

So far, the health department has given 1,300 vaccinations. Today’s vaccination clinic will be the second dose for people vaccinated Feb. 3.

Vaccination clinics, usually held on Wednesdays, are by appointment only.
