Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 5

7:51 a.m. — A 77-year-old man who fell and hurt his knee and arm at a residence in the 700 block of E. Weldon St. in Marion was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by the county’s backup ambulance, responding as Marion ambulance.

10:21 a.m. — Goessel, Hillsboro, Peabody, and Walton firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched for a dryer fire at a farmhouse near 80th and Eagle Rds. Upon their arrival, Goessel firefighters noted that the dryer was outside the residence and canceled the call for other departments. The fire was declared out within 25 minutes.

11:03 a.m. — A 64-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:21 p.m.

2:55 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman, clammy and sweaty at Carlsons’ Grocery in Marion, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:02 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a residence in the 200 block of S. Adams St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital, where she earlier was treated for a kidney stone, by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters and police were called to help ambulance attendants enter the locked residence.

4:50 p.m. — A 38-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to the county at 8:06 p.m.

8:04 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman in septic shock was transferred on an emergency basis from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:26 p.m.

NOV. 6

3:54 a.m. — At a deputy’s request, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to a traffic accident on K-15 south of 110th Rd. to check two people who said they were not injured. Both declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:14 p.m. — A car smoking after hitting a deer at US-50 and Remington Rd. was checked by Peabody firefighters. Marion ambulance checked the driver, who declined to be taken to a hospital. An ambulance supervisor initially responded as well but stood down after hearing from firefighters who were first on the scene.

THURSDAY

3:13 a.m. — A 76-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse on 70th Rd. between Diamond and Eagle Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:38 a.m. — A resident of undisclosed age with neck, head, and chest pain and having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near US-56 and Nighthawk Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:44 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman having her first seizure in four years at Marion Elementary School was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

1:53 p.m. — A grass fire started by a brush fire near 230th and Jade Rds. was extinguished within 15 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

3:59 p.m. — A 91-year-old man bleeding from a catheter at a Bethesda Homes duplex in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

8:06 p.m. — A 36-year-old man possibly having a heart attack at a home in the 200 block of S. Eisenhower St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance, opting instead to go by private vehicle. Dispatchers originally assigned Marion ambulance to go to a Marion address instead of Hillsboro ambulance to a Hillsboro address. An ambulance supervisor and a Hillsboro first responder also answered the call.

9:04 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health.

11:40 p.m. — Returning from McPherson, Hillsboro ambulance reported directly to HCH to transfer a patient to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:45 a.m.

FRIDAY

12:23 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman having trouble walking and breathing at a home in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

12:48 a.m. — Rather than return to its station, Marion ambulance reported to HCH to transfer a patient to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:44 a.m.

4:51 p.m. — A fire alarm at Harms Hall on the Tabor College campus in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

5:17 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 8:47 p.m. at a football game in Peabody.

7:09 p.m. — A power pole blocking the road north of 10th and Yarrow Rds. was monitored by Burns firefighters until after an Evergy crew arrived at 7:21 p.m.

7:14 p.m. — A fire alarm at a women’s dormitory at Tabor College was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm though residents saw smoke at one point. A student who breathed smoke had difficulty breathing afterward and was checked by Hillsboro first responders and Marion ambulance attendants, who arrived at 8:09 p.m. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

SATURDAY

3:37 a.m. — A smoke alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

12:10 p.m. — A 72-year-old man with leg pain at a home in the 300 block of N. Elm St. in Burns declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Burns first responders provided initial evaluation and care.

12:38 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance stood by until 3:36 p.m. at a Tabor College football game.

3:52 p.m. — A 75-year-old man with hip and side pain at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

8:18 a.m. — A 91-year-old man not feeling well at Parkside Homes duplexes in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:58 a.m.

10:58 p.m. — A combative 80-year-old woman who fell for a second time and hurt her hip at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

9:02 a.m. — A 16-year-old boy with abdominal pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:40 a.m.

10:04 a.m. — Gas leaking from a service line in the 300 block of N. Church St. in Burns was shut off by Burns firefighters. They remained at the site until after a Kansas Gas Service crew arrived at 11:21 a.m.

8:10 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman who fell at farmhouse near 90th and Alfalfa Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:02 p.m.
