Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 12

10:25 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters responded to a false alarm, the location of which was obscured by transmissions testing emergency management radios.

3:50 p.m. — A 9-year-old boy bit in the face by a dog in the 900 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody was taken in serious condition to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:49 p.m.

NOV. 13

5:10 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman who became dizzy and was helped to the ground at a home in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance attendant. They arrived in a backup ambulance after Marion ambulance responded but “died” upon arrival. Florence firefighters were called to help jump-start the disabled ambulance.

8:41 a.m. — A 42-year-old man not breathing at a home in the 300 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:33 a.m. Marion ambulance also was dispatched.

THURSDAY

4:22 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman who fell at a home in Pilsen and was unable to move her arm was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. Lincolnville first responders also responded to the call. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:42 p.m.

FRIDAY

12:10 a.m. — A 77-year-old woman with respiratory failure was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2:48 a.m.

6:31 a.m. — A 60-year-old man with cardiac problems was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:02 a.m.

2:49 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:19 p.m. — An incoherent 57-year-old man who police said might have overdosed on drugs or alcohol at a residence in the 400 block of Doyle St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody firefighters helped lift the man.

7:10 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance out of the county, Marion ambulance was dispatched to Parkside Homes in Hillsboro to take an 82-year-old woman with a slow pulse to NMC Health at her family’s request. Hillsboro ambulance arrived before Marion ambulance, however, and attendants informed dispatchers they would transport the patient instead. At 8:19 p.m., however, they told dispatchers she had declined to be transported.

7:48 p.m. — Dispatchers accidentally sent to Peabody firefighters a repeat of their initial cell phone notification of the 5:19 p.m. call.

9:53 p.m. — An 88-year-old woman who hurt her hip in a fall the day before at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:01 p.m. — A medical alarm on behalf of a 78-year-old woman who fell sent Marion ambulance to a home in the 1100 block of Denver St. in Marion, but the woman declined to be taken to a hospital.

SATURDAY

2:04 a.m. — A 67-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and having trouble breathing at a home in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:42 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman with chest pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

12:37 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by during a football game at Tabor College until relieved at 1:57 p.m. by Hillsboro ambulance, which remained at the game until returning to its quarters at 3:45 p.m.

2:34 p.m. — Peabody firefighters spent 10 minutes putting out a small illegal fire in the 200 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody.

SUNDAY

2:23 a.m. — An 81-year-old with chest pains and a history of heart problems at a farmhouse near US-77 and Yarrow Rd. was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:38 a.m. Burns first responders arrived after the ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance stood by in Marion in case it was needed.

6:54 a.m. — A motorist with glass in his eye after a traffic accident on US-50 east of Limestone Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody firefighters provided initial evaluation of the motorist.

5:26 p.m. — A 66-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:21 p.m.

8:39 p.m. — A 68-year-old woman with COPD and having trouble breathing at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Dispatchers also sent Hillsboro ambulance, but Marion ambulance attendants canceled that call.

MONDAY

8:48 a.m. — A 50-year-old man bleeding from his mouth at a home in the 300 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:58 a.m. — Service to a leaking natural gas pipe at the Marion ambulance station on Commercial Dr. was shut off by Marion firefighters pending arrival of an Atmos Energy crew.

2:18 p.m. — A 14-year-old boy needing pelvic surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:46 p.m.

4:47 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8 p.m.
