DISPATCHES

Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper. A backup ambulance was used as Marion ambulance through most of the period.

DEC. 3

6:07 a.m. — Goessel firefighters and first responders helped with a medical call for a 72-year-old man near 29th Ave. and Chisholm Rd. in McPherson County.

10:49 a.m. — A 31-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:51 p.m.

11:41 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on a physician’s orders from a Salem Home apartment to Hillsboro Community Hospital.

1:11 p.m. — A natural gas meter struck by a vehicle in the 500 block of N. Coble St. in Marion was monitored by Marion firefighters. An Atmos Energy crew, working across the street at the time, verified there was no problem.

7:28 p.m. — A 41-year-old woman who fell and hurt her ankle after possibly suffering low blood sugar at Peabody-Burns High School’s gymnasium was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody police and a nurse tended to the patient before the ambulance arrived. Dispatchers initially paged Marion ambulance but quickly changed their mind.

8:25 p.m. — While still traveling to NMC Health, Hillsboro ambulance attendants were told they would need to report upon their return to HCH to transfer to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, a patient injured by a seat belt that snapped during an auto accident. The ambulance arrived at HCH at 9:58 p.m. and returned to Hillsboro at 12:27 a.m.

DEC. 4

9:24 a.m. — A person who fell at a home in the 200 block of Elm St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:41 a.m. — A 25-year-old man who may have suffered a seizure at a home in the 500 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:37 a.m. — A 78-year-old man who fell at a house on Turkey Creek Rd. just south of Marion County Lake declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:54 a.m. — Marion firefighters were alerted via a passer-by’s call to dispatchers of a fire at an imprecise location at Marion County Lake but quickly determined it was the lake’s regular burn pile.

THURSDAY

1:29 a.m. — A 93-year-old woman who fell at hit her head at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:22 p.m. — A 49-year-old woman with an obstructed bowel was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:37 p.m.

2:13 p.m. — What was described as a small fire in wheat stubble off Pawnee Rd. just south of Marion Dam was extinguished within 30 minutes by Marion firefighters.

2:20 p.m. — After waiting five minutes for Marion ambulance to be back in the county, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to HCH to transfer a 76-year-old man with gastrointestinal bleeding to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:02 p.m.

6:22 p.m. — A 72-year-old man having trouble breathing at a house in the 500 block of Lawrence Ave. in Durham was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. It arrived before Tampa ambulance, which also had been dispatched. A Durham first responder and a Tampa ambulance attendant in a private vehicle provided initial care.

FRIDAY

11:05 a.m. — A suicidal 23-year-old woman who cut herself at a home in the 500 block of E. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance but was escorted to HCH by ambulance attendants as she traveled by private vehicle.

4:04 p.m. — A 67-year-old man not feeling well at Tampa State Bank in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, which asked for Marion police to respond as well.

7:11 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by in Peabody while police evaluated an emotionally disturbed girl at a house in the 600 block of N. Poplar St. After the evaluation, ambulance attendants were told they were not needed.

8:33 p.m. — Smoke wafting to the main floor of the Kansas Hall men’s dormitory at Tabor College from a damaged belt on a basement washing machine was cleared within an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

11:43 p.m. — A 16-year-old injured in a wreck east of Marion’s Cedar St. on US-56 was taken in serious condition by Marion ambulance to NMC Health. An ambulance supervisor initially responded from Hillsboro but was told he wasn’t needed.

SATURDAY

5:36 a.m. — A smoke alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

8:21 a.m. — A male of unspecified age, breathing but gurgling after a possible suicide attempt at a house in the 400 block of W. Doyle St. in Peabody, was airlifted at 10:13 a.m. to a Wichita hospital by a LifeSave helicopter. Hillsboro ambulance and an ambulance supervisor responded from Hillsboro. Peabody firefighters established a landing zone for the helicopter. Police were notified at the request of ambulance attendants. The ambulance supervisor later drove to Wichita to retrieve equipment that accompanied the patient on the helicopter trip there.

8:04 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to Parkside Homes for a 68-year-old man bleeding from an ear, but the call was canceled as the ambulance arrived.

8:20 p.m. — The ambulance was sent back to Parkside to help lift an uninjured 84-year-old woman. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9 p.m. — An 18-year-old girl repeatedly passing out after asthma attacks in a vehicle near 4th and Walnut Sts. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded from Hillsboro. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:35 p.m.

SUNDAY

1:41 a.m. — A 2-year-old boy with croup was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:32 p.m.

4:46 a.m. — Firefighters from Peabody, Marion, and Hillsboro spent nearly three hours battling a possibly suspicious fire at Coneburg Inn in Peabody. Hillsboro ambulance treated at least one firefighter on the scene. An investigator from the state fire marshal’s office was called.

11:19 a.m. — Peabody firefighters returned to the Coneburg for 50 minutes to deal with rekindling.

12:50 p.m. — A 20-year-old woman short of breath with asthma was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:34 p.m.

2:22 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman, clammy and confused at Parkside Homes assisted living, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6 p.m. — A 47-year-old man with multiple fractures was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance interrupted its return to the county to go back to Wesley and drop off paperwork attendants had forgotten to leave. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:11 p.m.

MONDAY

12:02 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was asked by law enforcement to evaluate an emotional disturbed 12-year-old girl at an apartment in the 200 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody.

1:14 a.m. — Upon completing the Peabody evaluation without transporting a patient, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to HCH to transfer a 37-year-old woman with altered mental status and a urinary tract infection from HCH to Salina Regional Health Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:10 a.m.

3:36 p.m. — Marion ambulance and a county deputy were dispatched to search for a woman who an automated alarm indicated may have fallen and whose last known GPS coordinates were near Union Rd. and US-50. The ambulance tried several locations in vain before returning to Marion at 4:54 p.m.

6:46 p.m. — A 69-year-old man with sepsis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:52 p.m.
