Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JAN. 7
8:43 a.m. — A 49-year-old woman who fell and gashed her head the night before at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance.
4:27 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched for a person who died at a home in the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion.
4:51 p.m. — A 1-year-old girl choking on an apple at a home in the 300 block of W. D St. in Hillsboro was checked but not taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. An ambulance supervisor also responded.
7:50 p.m. — A brush fire near 100th and Pawnee Rds. was determined by Peabody firefighters after nearly an hour of investigation to pose no danger of expanding.
9:57 p.m. — An 85-year-old who fell at a home near Lakeshore Dr. near Hillcrest Dr. at Marion County Lake was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:11 a.m.
10:07 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman with cardiac trouble was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 2 a.m.
10:39 p.m. — With both full-time ambulances heading to Wichita, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by at US-56 and Nighthawk Rd. in case of additional calls.
JAN. 8
1:16 a.m. — Tampa ambulance was relocated to 140th and Pawnee Rds. to stand by as sheriff’s deputies investigated a domestic disturbance in the area. An ambulance supervisor also responded, but both were told at 1:57 a.m. that they wouldn’t be needed.
5:03 a.m. — A 56-year-old man with chest pains at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:13 a.m. — Possibly the same patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart.
8:16 p.m. — A 38-year-old man with a perforated colon was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
THURSDAY
11:29 a.m. — An 88-year-old man who slipped on ice, fell, and hurt his hip in the 400 block of Brairwood Ln. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:25 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from HCH to NMC.
2:58 p.m. — Returning from Newton, Marion ambulance reported directly to HCH to transfer a second unspecified patient to NMC. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:43 p.m.
10:06 p.m. — An 89-year-old man whose dentures became embedded in his lip at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
FRIDAY
1:12 a.m. — Peabody firefighters were called but not needed after Hillsboro ambulance became stuck in snow at Poplar and 9th Sts. in Peabody while transferring to NMC a 59-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at Peabody Health and Rehab. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:09 a.m.
8:57 a.m. — A 62-year-old woman who fell and hurt her back at Homestead Affordable Housing in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
SATURDAY
11:51 a.m. — Atmos Energy initially asked for Hillsboro firefighters and police to help with a gas leak in the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro after residents reportedly would not come to the door, but the call was canceled after the first firefighter on the scene reported that residents had opened their door.
SUNDAY
6:27 a.m. — An uninjured 81-year-old woman who fell in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
10:20 a.m. — A 66-year-old man with back pain from a fall a week earlier and unable to get out of a recliner at a farmhouse near 180th and Nighthawk Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. An off-duty emergency medical technician helped lift the patient.
10:27 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman who fell and hurt her knee at a home in the 800 block of Barker St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
10:32 a.m. — An ambulance supervisor asked that Tampa ambulance stage in Hillsboro in case of additional calls, but a dispatcher responded that Tampa ambulance attendants had said the ambulance would not be available for an hour and a half.
3:06 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman, weak and vomiting at a farmhouse near 100th and Alamo Rds., was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
6:42 p.m. — A bleeding 68-year-old man, described as highly intoxicated after falling and hitting his head the day before, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro. An ambulance supervisor also responded to the call.
MONDAY
10:31 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke while sitting for up to two hours inside a running car in the 400 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken on an emergency basis by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:20 a.m.
5:16 p.m. — After she reportedly fell, an 80-year-old woman ill for several weeks at a home in the 200 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
6:05 p.m. — A possibly intoxicated 68-year-old man who slipped and may have sprained an ankle at a home in the 400 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody firefighters helped lift the patient.
8:41 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman suffering from influenza and pneumonia was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:18 p.m.
