Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

6:51 a.m. — Marion firefighters and ambulance were dispatched after a county road and bridge employee rolled a loader on slick roads near 170th Rd. and Lakeshore Dr. at Marion County Lake. Most units were told to stand down after deputies reported that the driver was uninjured and had exited the loader.
7:35 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance — then Marion ambulance instead — was dispatched for a passed out or sleeping driver of a vehicle blocking US-50 west of Quail Creek Rd. An ambulance supervisor also responded, but the driver declined to be taken to a hospital.
1:32 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a residence near 59th and Newell Rds. south of Peabody was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:58 p.m.
4:38 p.m. — Marion ambulance attendants helped lift an uninjured 78-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
10:31 p.m. — A 75-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:41 a.m.
THURSDAY
12:31 a.m. — Rescuers were called back to the home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion where Marion ambulance attendants had visited the day before. This time, with Marion ambulance en route to Wichita, the call to help lift an uninjured person went to Marion firefighters.
9:38 a.m. — A 26-year-old woman who suffered a seizure in a room at Country Inn motel in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A week earlier, a similar call to the same motel room for what appeared to be the same patient also resulted in no one being taken to a hospital.
9:42 a.m. — For the third time in less than a day, rescuers were sent back to the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion to help lift a woman who had fallen. With Marion ambulance on a call to Country Inn, the call initially was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance, However, Marion ambulance finished with the motel call and went instead, then asked Marion firefighters to help lift the woman. This time, the ambulance took her to St. Luke.
4:53 p.m. — A man who burned his face when fire swept through a detached garage near 330th and Old Mill Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance, opting to go instead by private vehicle. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched, but at the request of Ramona’s fire chief the call was switched to Tampa ambulance. He also asked that Herington and Lincolnville firefighters be dispatched along with Lost Springs, Ramona, and Tampa firefighters, but the call for additional units eventually was canceled. The fire, involving a tractor and a Jeep, was extinguished within an hour. Firefighters performed mop-up duties for another hour.
5:15 p.m. — Marion’s fire chief asked for volunteers to go to the county lake in a pumper and retrieve a cat stuck on a roof after he received a call from the sheriff that “some lady’s bugging the stew out of him” to have the cat rescued.
5:54 p.m. — At a physician’s request, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to the 100 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro to take a 74-year-old man with cardiac issues to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters also were called to help lift the man, but he declined to be transported by ambulance.
6:55 p.m. — A 79-year-old man with burns — presumably, the person injured in the garage fire at 4:53 p.m. — was transferred by Tampa ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The call initially was assigned to Marion ambulance. When a subsequent call went out for Hillsboro ambulance, ambulance attendants requested that the call be reassigned to Tampa ambulance so Marion ambulance could remain available. Just as Tampa ambulance was arriving in Marion at 7:40 p.m., the Hillsboro ambulance call concluded, and Tampa ambulance was told it no longer would be needed. However, when Marion ambulance arrived at St. Luke, it experienced mechanical problems, and Tampa ambulance was told at 7:48 p.m. to return to St. Luke and handle the call. Marion ambulance remained out of service until 8:42 p.m. Tampa ambulance returned to Tampa at 11:11 p.m.
6:58 p.m. — A semi driver having what might have been a diabetic episode on US-56 near Eagle Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:31 p.m. — At a law enforcement officer’s request, a 67-year-old man experiencing anxiety after consuming alcohol was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from Mustang Rd. near Catlin Cemetery.
FRIDAY
12:06 a.m. — An unresponsive 80-year-old man who fell at a farm near 110th and Goldenrod Rds. received cardiopulmonary resuscitation from a caller until Hillsboro ambulance arrived. Peabody firefighters helped with CPR, and Marion ambulance volunteered to respond, but the victim was pronounced dead. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
8:46 a.m. — With Marion ambulance out of service for nearly an hour for repairs, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to a farmhouse near US-77 and 140th Rd. north of Florence for an 82-year-old woman with abdominal pain and bleeding. She was taken to NMC Health.
10:34 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman unable to stand because of leg pain at a farmhouse near 240th and Sunflower Rds. was taken to St. Luke by a backup ambulance based in Marion. A Lincolnville first responder provided initial evaluation.
SATURDAY
11:47 a.m. — A fire alarm at St. Luke was canceled before Marion firefighters arrived.
12:29 p.m. — A 67-year-old man feeling ill at a home near 60th and Old Mill Rds. south of Peabody was taken to NMC by Marion ambulance. The call initially was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance but later was determined to be in Marion ambulance’s response area. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:52 p.m.
1:38 p.m. — An unconscious 71-year-old man at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
8:28 p.m. — A 17-year-old girl lethargic after having a five-minute seizure in a vehicle near 130th and Indigo Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance, which asked for a law enforcement officer to be dispatched as well.
10:28 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with jaw and chest pain at Salem Home assisted living in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SUNDAY
12:46 p.m. — A Tampa firefighter asked that Durham and Tampa firefighters be dispatched to a garage fire at K-15 and 330th Rd. Dispatchers also alerted Tampa ambulance and Roxbury firefighters, but nine minutes after the initial alarm, they were told the fire was out, and they would not be needed.
8:23 p.m. — A 71-year-old man with abdominal pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:26 p.m.
MONDAY
2:57 p.m. — A person trapped for half an hour in a rolled-over minivan on K-15 south of 170th Rd. was extricated by Goessel and Hillsboro firefighters and taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:04 p.m.
