Family who lost home feeling the love

Staff writer

A Hillsboro family whose home was destroyed in a fire Oct. 5 said they are amazed and grateful at the help people have provided.

Sarah and Zac Gutierrez and their children Mariah, 17, and Elijah, 3, are renting a different home for now, but Sarah said the couple is contemplating rebuilding the house.

“We moved here about 4½ years ago,” Sarah said. “It’s where we brought our son, Elijah, home from the hospital.”

They were renting to own the house and had made a lot of improvements before the fire.

Real estate agent Amy Dirks, owner of Professional Property Solutions, helped them find a different house.

County Seat Decorating Center has donated to help the family, she said.

Many other people from throughout the county have donated, Sarah said.

“Marion County has a whole lot of heart,” she said. “Our whole family is grateful for everything people have done for us. It makes us all feel like family.”

Hillsboro Hardware continues to accept donations for the family.
