Fun run at lake approved

Staff writer

An around-the-lake fun run March 15 to raise money for Youth Core Ministries was approved Monday by county commissioners.

Planning and zoning director Sharon Omstead showed commissioners a map of the route, which would begin north of the lake hall, proceed east around the lake, come back west, and cross the dam to the starting point.

“It’s about helping people out of poverty,” Core Ministries youth director Gwenneth Grover said.

Grover said the organization wanted to make the run an annual event.

In other business Monday, a spokesman for Kansas Natural Resource Coalition provided information on her organization in the hope that commissioners would consider joining.

She told them as federal agencies do their jobs, they often infringe upon rights of property owners.

The group provides a collective voice against government overreach and monitors such things as the 30x30 initiative, natural asset companies, Quivira National Wildlife Refuge water rights, National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor development, the Environmental Protection Agency’s small meat processing plant water filtration, the Great Western Trail, the endangered species act, and the rails to trails program.

She said the organization attempted to reduce the impact of what she termed federal overreach on national resources and land use.

Commissioners took no action.
