Hillsboro council members sworn in

Staff writer

Two Hillsboro city council members were sworn in for new terms at a council meeting Tuesday evening.

Both Byron McCarty and Jeff Jorgenson were reelected after having run unopposed for their positions.

McCarty has been in his seat for “20 to 30 years,” according to city administrator Matt Stiles.

Jorgenson is newer to the position, having been appointed last summer.

Also discussed at the meeting were Adams St. renovations, which began roughly three months ago and have seen three city blocks replaced.

A water line along the street is the only part of the project yet to be completed.

The work is estimated to cost $710,043 total, of which Hillsboro is responsible for $213,012.

The city has taken out a bond to pay for its part of the project.

A naming contest for the city bowling alley (formerly owned by Tabor College and known as Bluejay Lanes) has opened and will run until the end of January.

Entries can be submitted online by scanning a QR code on the city’s Facebook page or in-person at City Hall or the bowling alley.

The winner will receive a one-year family membership to the alley.
