Hillsboro man arrested after choking reported

Blake Allen Newsome, 25, Hillsboro was arrested Friday after a woman told a school counselor that Newsome had choked her earlier that morning.
Police listed the alleged offense as choking a family or household member or someone in a dating relationship.
The incident occurred about 7:30 a.m. in the 200 block of E. Grand Ave.
Police learned of it at 10:50 a.m. when the woman went to Hillsboro Elementary School to check on her children. Newsome had taken them to school that morning, assistant police chief Randal Brazil said.
She told a school counselor about the alleged attack and complained that her neck hurt, Brazil said.
An ambulance was called to the school, but the woman was not taken to the hospital.
Students were never in danger, Brazil said.
Brazil interviewed the woman, Newsome, and witnesses before making an arrest.
“It was bad enough for a probable-cause arrest,” Brazil said.
Newsome was booked into Marion County jail Friday and released at 6:10 p.m. Saturday after paying a $7,500 surety bond.
