Marion boys 3-peat at Herington

Staff writers

Races were cut short Thursday in Herington because of heat, but that didn’t slow the Marion boys’ cross-country team, which went on to win the meet for the third year in a row.

Individually, Luke Wessel finished second with a time of 10:36.96. Teammate Eli Klenda was fourth with a time of 10:58.87. Harrison Beery finished 11th, Owen White finished 14th, and Zayden Janzen 17th.

Hillsboro’s Lady Trojans placed third place as a team in Herington. Quinlyn Funk led the Trojans with a fourth-place finish and a time of 12:57.72. Her teammate, Riley Richert, followed with a fifth place finish at 12:59.27.

Centre raced in Herington, as well. Freshman Kole Kroupa placed 16th with a time of 12:17, while senior Kaitlyn Bina finished 13th with a time of 14:18.

Marion will host for its next cross-country meet Thursday, with Hillsboro and Goessel scheduled to compete. Centre’s next event will be Oct. 3 in Halstead.

Goessel

Eli Gaeddert continues to lead the Bluebirds, finishing second out of 69 runners Thursday at the Bennington cross-country race, which was shortened after the temperature got too hot, according to coach Donna Washmon.

Gaeddert finished the two-mile race with a time of 11:03.51. Levi Olson came in 14th at 12:14.63 and Aidan Impson completed the course in 32nd place (13:36.04). All of the Goessel boys finished with improved times compared to last year.

For the girls, Elaina Graber finished in 30th place out of 44 runners with a time of 17:55.63.

Goessel will race Thursday at Marion.
