Kansas House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday banning smoking in most enclosed public places and businesses. The Senate previously approved the same bill in February 2009.

Marion High School students Landon Leiker and Sarah Guetersloh performed as part of the Kansas Music Educators Association 1234A State Honors Band Saturday in Wichita.

Guetersloh, a trombonist, and Leiker, a trumpeter, earned their places in the honor band by auditioning in January.

Barry Linnens, owner and president of Cottonwood Valley Bank in Florence and Cedar Point, has purchased Pilsen State Bank in Lincolnville. Linnens said Kurt Spachek will continue in his present role at the bank, along with the other employees.

Marion Elementary School kindergarten student Karlee Fetrow is pictured as she sprinkles salt on her green eggs. MES students were served green eggs and ham for lunch and could wear hats to school for “Cat in the Hat” Day. They also watch a Dr. Seuss cartoon movie with their lunch.

The family of Jim and Violet Richmond surprised the couple for their 50th wedding anniversary with a supper at Marion Country Club.
