Senior Landon Leiker plays trumpet in the Marion High School band. On top of practicing for a solo audition Jan. 18 with the Kansas State Honor Band, he has auditioned and been selected to play trumpet at a once-in-a-lifetime performance Feb. 19 at the North American Honor Band at Carnegie Hall.

“Cherishing Our Historical Legacy” is the title of the program Marla Markin of Hill City will present at the Kansas Day celebration at Eastmoor United Methodist Church Jan. 29. The program chronicles true stories of those who forged a new life in the West and is a part of Marion’s sesquicentennial celebration.

St. Luke Hospital and Living Center and Marion County Home Care have selected Stacey Pedersen as their outstanding employee with commitment and dedication during the first quarter of 2011.

Tori Smith repeated Tuesday afternoon as champion of the Marion Elementary School spelling bee. Jarrett Johnson was runner-up and Lindsey Sigel was alternate.
