The story of William Scully’s investment and land management activities were revealed recently in a book titled “Landlord William Scully,” a product of more than 30 years research by Homer E. Socolofsky, native of Marion, who graduated from high school here in 1940.

Verna Riffel, Lincolnville, is pictured as she looks at her watercolor, “Oregon Seascape,” displayed along with 13 other of her paintings at Farmers and Drovers National Bank. Riffel has been painting seven years. Her work will be exhibited in the bank for about two months.

Lt. Col. Laura Jane Bredemeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bredemeier of Marion, has received her second Meritorious Service Medal from the Army for her outstanding service as a nurse at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. Bredemeier is now stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and will retire from service in three years.

Evelyn Ollenberger was guest of honor at a retirement dinner Thursday at Stone Inn. Mrs. Ollenberger is retiring from Case & Son Insurance after working there 49 years and four months.

Marion High School senior running back Greg Boyle has been named by the Salina Journal as player of the week in central Kansas high school football.

Dean Schroeder, Hillsboro Chrysler-Plymouth dealer and a director of the Ramona State Bank, is pictured as he slices barbecued pork Saturday evening at the second annual Ramona Octoberfest, held in the Ramona City Park.
