Most county teams run at Wamego

Hillsboro, Marion, and Centre ran at Wamego this weekend, with mixed results between the three teams.
Leading the way for Marion was Luke Wessel with a 10th place finish and a time of 17:28.68. Eli Klenda was next, finishing in 22nd with a time of 18:04.42.
“We will look to these two to continue to push us,” coach Jason Hett said. “This is a championship course, one of our favorites to attend, and a challenging course to open the season with, but they attacked it well.”
The Lady Trojans had a great showing at Wamego, with Quinlyn Funk (20:48.61) and Riley Richert (20:53.69) placing in the top 15. Leading the Trojan men were Wyatt Dies with a personal record of 21:33.39 and Casen Steinert at 21:58.39.
Centre freshman Kole Kroupa finished 102nd out of 187 with a time of 20:46. Centre senior Kaitlyn Bina finished 40th out of 132 at 22:50.
All three schools compete Thursday in Herington.
Goessel
It was a dead heat as Eli Gaeddert from Goessel and Jayden Smith from Garden City came down a hill to the finish line in the Swather Special Cross Country meet at Hesston.
Smith crossed the line 0.30 of a second ahead of Gaeddert, But Gaeddert still came out of the race with a first-place medal. At the Swather Special, all sophomore boys race together, but separate awards are handed out to large and small schools.
Gaeddert finished with a time of 17:22.10, more than 26 seconds ahead of second place for small schools. Levi Olson finished in 19:01.10 in the senior division for 12th place. Aidan Impson came in 22nd place in the junior division,
Goessel will go to Rock City on Thursday for a race hosted by Bennington.
