Peabody-Burns abandons girls season

Winter weather canceled most sports events after New Year’s, but a longer-term cancelation hit the Peabody-Burns girls team.
Three players quit the team before break, and the remainder of their season was canceled.
Centre’s girls filled in Friday night for the Peabody-Burns team as one of two county teams playing since break.

They Cougars lost 51-30 Friday to Pike Valley, playing at Peabody-Burns.
“We had a few decent practices over the Christmas break, but started sluggishly in the first half of this game,” coach Alan Stahlecker said.
Olivia Carlson led the team with 13 points. Jaycee Stika scored five. Hailey Barton and Ryleigh Jones both scored three each.
“It was good to have Hailey Barton back in a limited role after she missed most of our last two games before Christmas with an injury,” Stahlecker said.
Even in a low-scoring loss, seven of eight players managed to score. That was the most in any game this season.
“The younger and less-experienced players continue to develop and handle difficult and new situations better,” Stahlecker said. “Our most experienced players, Hailey Barton and Olivia Carlson, continue to lead us in most aspects of the game.”
Centre will hit the road Friday for a game against Wakefield.

The Warriors lost 66-56 at home Friday against Pike Valley.
Head coach Bob Kyle will not send information about the game, and Peabody-Burns has not updated their website with stats.
The team’s next game will be this Friday on the road against Little River.
