Peabody’s ranks thin but hopes high

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns will play two sports this winter, boys and girls basketball.

Boys basketball

Eight students will suit up for Peabody-Burns this season under the direction of returning coach Bob Kyle and assistance coach Brett McGee.

“With all of our starters returning, we hope to surprise people this year,” Kyle said.

Three seniors are on the team: Cade Gossen, Chris Spencer, and Dash Strotkamp.

“We will look to improve on last year,” Kyle said.

Other players are Luke Partridge, Aiden Hurst, Dalton Philpott, Jameson Miles, and Ashton Talkington.

“Everyone gained experience at the varsity level last year, so I hope we can use that to our advantage this year,” Kyle said.

The Warriors will open their season at home Friday in a non-district game against Central Christian Academy.

Girls basketball

The Lady Warriors are small in numbers and size but excited for the season to start.

“We are hoping to continue to grow the team and have fun,” returning head coach Austin Weaver said.

Only seven girls tried out for the team this year. Two of them played last year: sophomore Brooklyn Whiteside and junior Abbi Mendaz-Campos.

Other girls on the team are freshmen Ashlee Salazat-Fritz and Isabella Fistler, and seniors Chyanne Aydelott, Delilah Galleher, and Angelina Fistler.

The Warriors have been practicing Monday through Friday since Nov. 18.

Their first game of the season will be at home Friday, just before the boys game and also against Central Christian Academy.
