ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

March 24 — No damage was noted when checking a vehicle that a resident thought might have been damaged. A driver was warned for having no brake lights in the 100 block of S. Adams St.

March 25 — A resident’s questions about assigning vehicle titles were answered. Police met with a resident about a civil matter.

March 26 — No problems were found in checking on a report of screaming in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. Park curfew was enforced. A resident had concerns about military helicopters flying around.

Thursday — A teenager who accidentally became locked in a bathroom at Pizza Hut was freed. A resident reported a phone scam. Traffic control was provided after a utility pole caught fire at D and Ash Sts. A driver also was ticketed there for running a stop sign. Police helped a resident get a ride and answered another resident’s questions about division of property.

Friday — Drivers were warned for reckless driving in Memorial Park and for speeding on US-56 near Santa Fe St. Police again helped a resident get a ride and stood by during a civil matter.

Saturday — No problems were found in investigating another report of yelling, this time in the 200 block of S. Ash St. Police dealt with parking issues at the sports complex, enforced park curfew, and met with a resident about serving legal papers.

Sunday — Drivers were warned for failing to secure a load in the 400 block of N. Ash St. and for running a stop sign at D and Lincoln Sts. Police arranged to stand by during a civil matter and helped an owner who reported a loose dog.

MARION

March 24 — Police talked to a parent who left two children in a vehicle in 1100 block of E. Main St.; the kids were fine. A scam was reported in the 700 block of Weldon St. Two dogs loose in the 400 block of Walnut St. were not caught. No problems were found at a disturbance in the 1500 block of E. Lawrence St. Drivers were warned for having a defective headlight near US-56 and Cedar St. and for speeding near US-56 and Timber Rd.

March 25 — A possible scam was reported in the 300 block of Grant St. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 400 block of S. Lincoln St.

March 26 — A driver was ticketed for racing near Main and Roosevelt Sts. Another was warned for having a defective license plate light near Main and Walnut Sts. No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 600 block of S. Freeborn St., where an animal complaint also was issued. A dog loose near Roosevelt and Weldon Sts. was not caught.

Thursday — A vehicle reported as stolen by a resident of the 200 block of Miller St. was recovered by its owner, who asked police to confirm the recovery so the vehicle could be removed from a database of stolen vehicles. Two dogs loose in the 500 block of N. Lincoln St. were taken to a veterinary clinic. A resident complained about an animal in the 200 block of S. Cedar St.

Friday — Evidence was seized for Emporia police after a wanted vehicle was stopped near US-56 and Kanza Rd. Police met with someone at the sheriff’s office about an unspecified crime last summer that now is being investigated. A driver was warned for having a defective tag light near US-56 and Cedar St.

Saturday — A 27-year-old Marion man was arrested without incident in the 1000 block of E. Main St. after a sexual assault was reported in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. (See separate story.) Unspecified charges may be filed by the county attorney about a disturbance in the 1500 block of E Lawrence St. A resident complained about an animal in the 300 block of N. 3rd St. Police found no problems in checking on a person lying on the ground in the 300 block of W. Main St.

Sunday — A resident complained about an animal in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. A driver was warned for speeding near US-56 and Timber Rd.
