Police rescue wheelchair from snow

Staff writer

A Marion woman on her way to a medical appointment in her wheelchair Friday needed police assistance after she got stuck in snow.

Interim police chief Zach Hudlin said police were summoned when the woman got stuck in the snow in the 1500 block of E. Main St.

An officer helped get the wheelchair out of the snow and offered to drive the woman to her medical appointment, but the woman refused to have someone else drive her there, Hudlin said.

The officer then followed her three-quarters of a mile to St. Luke Clinic to make sure she got there OK.

She agreed to call when she was ready to go home.

After getting her call, the officer returned to the clinic, but the woman still was determined to go home in her wheelchair without any assistance.

The officer followed her home to Victory Ln., a mile away.
