Wanda Carr

Services for Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr, who passed away Thursday at age 97, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

She was born Oct. 18, 1923, in rural Marion County, to Fred A. and Dixie Louise (Fox) Herzet.

She grew up on a farm with her four brothers and two sisters. She attended a country school and graduated from Marion High School in 1940.

As a teenager, Wanda worked at the Elgin Hotel in the housekeeping department.

She was united in marriage Aug. 3, 1940, to Max E. Carr. He preceded her in death. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery, and sewing. In her later years, she enjoyed painting, reading, keeping track of her family on Facebook with her tablet, and working jigsaw puzzles.

Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.

She was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sew Much Love sewing club, and adult Sunday school classes.

She assisted with prom, funeral, and other various church dinners. She loved serving in the kitchen and always was asked to make her gravy for dinners.

Wanda and her husband’s greatest joy was their family.

She is survived by sons William A. (and wife Rosalie), Jetmore; Thomas E. (and wife Marsha), Wichita; Max E. (and wife Donna), Andover; James R. (and wife Kathy), Hillsboro; David A. (and wife Nina), Marion; Patrick L. (and wife Ann), Marion; Michael W. (and wife Dawn), Marion; and daughters Nancy C. (and husband David) Day, Valley Center and Susan K. Wheeler, Wichita.

Other survivors include grandchildren Debra, Doug, Jenny, William, Stefanie, Pamela, Matthew, Heather, Russell, Roger, Kelly, Chris, Tammy, Tim, Mitch, Melissa, Sarah, Tracy, Cody, Erin, LeaAnn, Tabitha, Matthew, Nathaniel, Katherine, Nicole, Devan, Laramie, Jordan, Adam, Sean, and Joshua.

Also surviving are great-grandchildren Lee, Luke, Derek, Allison, Elyssa, Adrianne, Felicia, Leo Thomas, Abbey, Tommy, Ethan, Garrett, Connor, Tyler, Caleb, Josiah, Travis, Alexis, Avery, Anna, Willow, Nathanael, Abbigail, Austin, Jaylenn, Adam, Taylor, Brandon, Gabriel, Jordan, Trevor, Cole, Brendan, Riley, Tyler, Hayden, Jenson, Jonas, Lydia, Maxwell, Jeremiah, Kiersten, Ellie, Tenley, Skyler, Colin, Audrey, Paisyn, Braizlyn, Reagan, Rylee, and Matthew.

Great-great-grandchildren include Ben, Charlotte, Carlynne, Carvaughn, Corey, Nova, and Hadley. She also is survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; two sisters; daughter Jeanne Higgins; two sons-in-law, Robert Higgins and Frank Wheeler; grandsons Benjamin and Duane; and granddaughter Angie.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery. Memorials have been established with St. Luke Hospital and Marion County Home Health Care.
