PEABODY-BURNS:   Warrior starters return

Staff writer

Most starters return this fall for Peabody-Burns High School’s two varsity teams.

Football

The entire team from last year returns this year with the addition of two freshman.

Seniors leading the way are Cade Gossen and Chris Spencer.

The new additions are Kale Gossen and Caden Lamb.

Returning are Ashton Talkington, Dalton Phillpott, Colin Groff, Jameson Miles, Aiden Hurst, Joesuf Aydelott, Gage Wilson, and Max Turner.

“Last year, we were very young, with most of the boys being freshman,” coach Eric Dutton said. “We ended the season 5-4, getting beat out in week two of the playoffs by Tescott.”

After what Dutton saw last year, he has high expectations for his boys this season.

“They will be challenged with the schedule we have,” Dutton said.

The Warriors will open their season Friday at home against Tescott with hope of getting revenge for their playoff loss last year.

Volleyball

The Warriors are led by lone senior Maddy Blythe with all but two starters returning from last season.

“She’s a great player, leader, and all-around hard-working student athlete,” coach Clarissa Dutton said.

No new athletes are being added to the team as of now, but that could change as the season progresses.

“Our girls on the court should have a pretty good feel for one another and be able to communicate and play well together,” Dutton said.

Returning to the team are Chloe Callahan, Adyson Winter, Fancy Reynolds, Sarah Winfrey, and Brooklynn Whiteside.

Dutton has a motto she wants her team to follow this year: “All out, all game, all season!”

She wants her girls to kick it up a notch and not be afraid to compete hard every second.

Peabody-Burns will open its season Tuesday by traveling to Elyria.
