Warriors peaking at right time, coach says

In its second to last regular season meet, Marion had a strong performance Friday at the Remington Relays.

“We scored in every area of the meet and had our best day of the season,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Kenna Wesner won the triple jump for the girls while Shyann Harris came in fifth.

Mckinnon Waner placed third in discus with Sophia Dye in sixth.

Gabby Newell placed third in the 100 hurdles, and Taryn Kraus finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Newell, Wesner, Addison Cooper, and Kayla McPhail placed fourth in the 4x100 relay.

Kraus, Wesner, Cooper, and Maria Carlson placed fourth in the 4x400 relay.

“We were very pleased with our young women with the way they rebounded from a tough meet the week before, worked very hard in practice, and then performed very well at the relays,” Thierolf said. “Our two relay teams are starting to come together and just at the right time.”

On the boys’ side, Chance Shults placed second in the pole vault as well as second in the 110 hurdles. He also snagged fifth place in the 300 hurdles.

Tristen Dye finished second in the 800, and Luke Wessel placed second in the 1600. Shults, Dye, Wessel, and Jesse Snyder won the 4x400 relay, and Wessel, Dye, Christopher Beery, and Eli Klenda placed third in the 4x800 relay.

Marion will be host Friday for the Heart of America invitational.

Hillsboro

The Trojan girls’ team placed fifth out of eight in Thursday’s Hesston Varsity Invitational. The boys tied for seventh.

Addison Jost won in the 800, and D’myia Cox won in the long jump.

Moriah Jost placed third in the 800, and Cox placed third in the triple jump.

Abbigail Williams finished second in the shot put.

Nicholas Cunningham placed fourth in the 200 and in the long jump.

Hillsboro’s last regular season meet will be Thursday in Lyons.

Centre

Centre placed eighth out of nine teams Thursday at the Steve Herrmann Invitational at Herington.

Kaitlynn Bina finished second in the 800 and third in the 1600. Emilee Remmers took sixth in the high jump.

On the boys’ side, Nick Krch placed third in the 100, fifth in the high jump, and fifth in the triple jump. Anthony Rziha placed sixth in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Robert Spohn placed sixth in the high jump.

Centre will conclude its regular season Thursday at the Wheat State League Invitational in Goessel.

Peabody-Burns

Just a handful of Warrior athletes competed Thursday in the Steve Herrmann Invitational at Herington.

Alexsis Anderson led the team with a fifth-place finish in the 100 as well as sixth place in the 100 hurdles, and ninth in the 200.

Cade Gossen placed sixth in the 200, eighth in the 100, 13th in the long jump, and 14th in the 400.

Chyanne Aydelott’s top finish was 11th for the 200. Chris Spencer placed 13th in the long jump and 15th in the 800.

Peabody-Burns is scheduled to be in Herington again this Thursday.

Goessel

Goessel will be host for the Wheat State League track meet Thursday after the girls won and the boys placed second among 13 schools last week at Tescott.

Several girls are coming back from injury. Cheyenne Sawyer grabbed gold medals in the 100 and 300 hurdles and was on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Aimee Funk won the long jump and 100 meter dash. Riley Graber took first in high jump.

Grant Bryant led the boys team, winning the 400 meter dash and placing second in the 110 hurdles. Eli Boden won the triple jump.
