Staff writer

Marion’s boys and girls teams placed first out of 11 schools Thursday at the Tim Griffin Relays at Chase County.

Brian Nguyen won first in the javelin and placed second in the discus.

Tripp Peterson won in the 100 and the 200. Eli Klenda won first in the 3200.

The boys 100 and 400 relay teams of Jesse Snyder, Kellen Waner, Sam Loomis, Tripp Peterson, and Wyatt Soyez also won.

“All parts of our team scored, and it was fun to see young athletes and our older athletes all contribute to the win,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

On the girl’s side, Taryn Kraus won in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Caileigh Johnson won in the pole vault. Hailey Harshman finished second, and Erin Regnier, third.

All three girls relay teams — the 100, 400, and 800 — won. The teams are composed of Brylee Smith, Addison Cooper, Erin Regnier, Taryn Kraus, Haley Suffield, Kate Wessel, Caileigh Johnson, Izy Branson, Jessica Methvin, Kaelynn Metro, and Maria Carlson.

“We have better depth than we have had in the past and it is great to have a lot of flexibility,” Thierolf said.

The Warriors will travel Friday to Halstead for their next meet and host a meet Tuesday.
