Marion swept a home doubleheader Tuesday from Hutch Trinity while Hillsboro continued to struggle against Moundridge.
Marion won 6-2 and 5-4. Hillsboro boys lost 8-6 in baseball and Hillsboro girls lost 8-3 in softball.
Marion
The Warriors had the weekend off after dropping two to Council Grove last week.
The Warriors are now 4-4 on the season, including pre-season games.
“So far things are going about as expected,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “We are getting better each time we take the field, but we are showing our inexperience often as a couple of games have really gotten away from us.
“We are making good improvements offensively and I think we will continue to improve there as a team.”
Marion will be back at home Friday to face Little River.
“We really need to clean some things up on the defensive side,” Schroeder said. “Too many free bases on the mound and in the field from walks, hit batters, errors, etc.”
Hillsboro
The Trojans have taken a few steps back, with baseball and softball 2-5 on the season.
Both boys and girls dropped two to Haven on the road Thursday night.
“The start to the season has been a struggle,” boys coach Daniel Moss said. “We are a young team that is going through some growing pains but will be better for it in the future.”
The boys lost 9-2 and 12-3 Thursday.
Dalton Philpott and Nash Dickinson each scored two runs over the two games. Talon Reiger scored one.
“We are continuing to be aggressive at the plate and have great attitudes when things don’t go well,” girls coach Alyssa Kroeker said.
The girls opened the season with two victories against Canton-Galva but have since slid back, losing two games Thursday to Haven, 12-0 and 15-2.
“I’m excited to see how this team will compete the rest of the season,” Kroeker said.
Cassidy Bernhardt is credited with the two runs the Trojans scored Thursday.
Hillsboro will continue its season at home Friday against Smoky Valley.
