Wrestling teams are wrapping up their regular seasons

Staff writer

The wrestling regular season will come to an end this week with regional competition for girls beginning this weekend and for boys next weekend.

Marion

Three of seven Warriors who competed Friday at Onaga finished the day with winning records.

Brian Nguyen was 2-0; Sam Rziha, 3-2; and Vyolett Dawson, 2-1.

“We started to see a few good things from our wrestlers,” coach Tyler McMichael said. “We are still really lacking in our aggression on the matt. This causes us to wrestle as if we are scared to do anything and hasn’t been showing well during our season. Hopefully we can find that going into the final weeks of our season.”

This Friday and Saturday, Marion girls will head to Rossville for a regional tournament.

Hillsboro

Sophomore Jaxon Chrislip was the lone Top 10 finisher when Trojan boys and girls participated over the weekend in the 34th annual Circle Invitational.

Chrislip placed fifth in his class after winning by major decision over Matheu Wilder from Larned.

“It was nice to see . . . Chrislip back in the lineup after missing the past two weeks,” coach Scott O’Hare said. “Our boys team was still competing short-handed with several still out due to illness and injury, although we do have a few slowly getting back.”

The Trojans have one more regular season match Thursday at Hesston.

On Friday and Saturday, Hillsboro girls will head to Rossville for a regional tournament.
